Masked gunmen on Wednesday night attacked the residential home of University of Jos Vice Chancellor, Prof. Sebastian Maimako, killing his police aide and wounding two others.

The newly appointed VC was reportedly out of the country at the time of attack which occurred at around 9pm last night along Eto'baba Road, in Jos North LGA and resulted in the death of a Police Officer, while stray bullets hit two security guards who are currently undergoing treatment in an undisclosed hospital.

Yunusa Mohammed Liman (right), a visually impaired youth that contested to be the Councillor of Lafia central ward in March 2013 but lost, has been sworn in as the Interim Management Committee Councilor of Gayam Ward of Lafia LGA by the state governor, Tank Al Mamakura. A major security alert that caused Geneva airport to step up armed security on Wednesday was caused by a bomb hoax made by a woman who did not want her husband to leave.

As Geneva police informed passengers of heightened checks on Wednesday morning, officers carrying sub-machine guns were busy carrying out urgent security operations around the airport in Switzerland’s second largest city.

A 20-year-old woman has been arrested for allegedly dumping her two-hour-old newborn baby inside a plastic bag and running away. She abandoned her baby in a pink plastic bag that was later spotted by shocked locals in Wangjiaoqiao village, south-west China. The child whose gender was not revealed, was rushed to hospital by police for emergency treatment but did not survive.

Following the Bastille Day attack in Nice, which left 84 dead, and the murder of an 85-year-old priest, the French government has pledged to deploy an additional 23,000 armed police and soldiers to holiday destinations over the summer. Interior minister Bernard Cazeneuve said the additional troops and police officers will be deployed to 56 festivals, open-air concerts and fairs.

A 28-year-old house help charged with sexually assaulting a four-year-old girl has blamed the devil.

Felista Wachira allegedly penetrated the genital organs of the minor using her fingers. She was charged on Monday, July 25 with committing the offence between May 1 and July 10 in Nairobi, Kenya.

The Enugu State Police Command has arrested three people, including 18-year-old girl, identified as Ezinne for allegedly selling her 16-month-old child at the sum of N300,000.
